• At least 10 people were killed after a 8.3 magnitude earthquake hit Chile

• More than a million people had to be evacuated after the earthquake struck at 7.54pm

• It was the sixth most powerful in the history of geologically volatile Chile

• It was the strongest anywhere in the world this year

• 15ft waves detected off the Chilean coast

• Waves along Chilean coast line

• Epicentre was 144 miles north of Santiago

• Widespread evacuations along the Chilean coast
